Family and Individual Factors Associated with Turkish Immigrant and German Children’s and Adolescents’ Mental Health

摘要: Turkish immigrants represent the largest ethnic minority in Germany however information about factors associated with their children’s mental health is scarce. This study examined family and individual strengths difficulties of immigrant children adolescents comparison German peers. Strengths Difficulties Questionnaires (SDQs) were rated by participants’ mothers (N = 480) teachers (n 164). Compared 121), 359) total difficulties, emotional symptoms peer problems as well prosocial behavior significantly higher. In contrast, there no differences participating teachers’ ratings compared difficulties. Regression analyses revealed that child gender adversity cross-culturally SDQ scores whereas inconsistent parenting only affected externalizing problems. Factors are thus both comparable culturally specific. More needed order to identify individuals at highest risk develop certain types provide specific prevention strategies.
