摘要: We report biological changes at several UK Acid Waters Monitoring Network lakes and streams that are spatially consistent with the recovery of water chemistry induced by reductions in acid deposition. These include trends toward more acid-sensitive epilithic diatom macroinvertebrate assemblages, an increasing proportional abundance predators, occurrence aquatic macrophyte species, recent appearance juvenile (<1 year old) brown trout some acidic flowing waters. Changes often shown to be directly linked annual variations acidity. Although indicative improvement response improving chemistry, "recovery" most cases is modest very gradual. While specific ecological endpoints uncertain, it likely physical biotic interactions influencing rate certain groups organisms particular sites.
