摘要: Abstract : Long-term data from the North American Breeding Bird Survey (BBS) indicate that many temperate-wintering landbird species, including sparrows and other species prefer early successional stage habitats, are experiencing highly significant continent-wide population declines. Recent results Monitoring Avian Productivity Survivorship (MAPS) Program suggest low survival, rather than breeding productivity, may be proximate demographic cause of decline for migratory species. Additional evidence scientific literature suggests habitat loss degradation on these species? wintering grounds decrease their overwintering survival rate and/or physical condition at end winter season, which, in turn, increased mortality spring migration lowered productivity grounds. Spatially extensive habitat- age-specific rates late-winter urgently needed to formulate, implement, evaluate effective management plans enhance preserve so as reverse trends declining maintain stable or increasing populations. The Department Defense able play an important role such efforts, because creation maintenance required by very compatible with efforts military Readiness Range Sustainment.
