摘要: Fentanyl is a synthetic opioid that has been approved by the FDA as general anesthetic because of its rapid onset and high potency. However, since 2013 an epidemic involving fentanyl or fentanyl-related compounds (FRCs) swept United States caused numerous deaths in every state. The identification novel FRCs complicated turnover modifications to core structure. In this study, series 16 were analyzed using electrospray ionization tandem mass spectrometry (ESI-MS/MS) gain deeper understanding conserved unique fragmentation behaviors associated with substitution This work provides approach, based on product ions from ESI-MS/MS, identify modification site(s) structure for FRCs. Five common locations used assess effect behavior proposed pathways are supported through combination isotopic labeling, multi-stage (MSn ), accurate measurements high-resolution (HRMS). primary specific regions additional tool location structure, which ultimately will assist toxicologists seized drug analysts emerging
