摘要: Intervertebral chondrocalcinosis (calcification of intervertebral discs and associated structures) may arise from a variety causes. This work presents discussion the identification its most probable cause in skeletal remains, using as case study skeleton an elderly male medieval Ipswich, UK. The is examined gross observation radiography, calcifications are subject to chemical analysis. In addition (which has resulted ankylosis lumbo-sacral segments), lesions identified include at some synovial joints, various soft tissue calcified bodies, severe osteoarthritis particularly gleno-humeral joints. Interpretation results analysis deposits complicated by diagenesis, but they consistent with apatite and/or whitlockite. Arriving this difficult, it tentatively suggested that ochronosis be best diagnostic option. Copyright © 2008 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
