摘要: Anthropogenic climate change could have disastrous consequences for the survival of atolls around planet. Although survived past increases in sea levels through upward growth corals, future coral mortality due to raising temperatures and ocean acidification will probably mean that islands suffer increasing erosion till they eventually disappear. Geomorphological is unlikely be linear with most occurring high intensity episodic events. Potential tropical cyclone intensities rising are also likely increase pace coastal erosion, further compounding problem. While a number adaptation measures possible, ultimately only definite path ensure can survive death corals construction defences, which become progressively more expensive as depth water front them continues increase.
