摘要: The coconut palm, Cocos nucifera L., native of the humid tropics, is a versatile, multipurpose palm with slender unbranched stem crowned cluster long green pinnate leaves producing fruit bunches borne on leaf axils. lacks bark, cambium, and no secondary growth features, volume once formed remains unaltered. Similarly, fibrous roots never expand in thickness after formation. neither produces branches nor forms vegetative buds stem, only being those at apex if this bud gets killed, dies. non-tillering monoecious, spadix bears distinct male female flowers fruits take about 10–12 months to mature. C. nucifera, though monotypic species known wild/domesticated relatives, still presents considerable intraspecific diversity heterozygosity. Systematic classification genetic crop, using morphological features has been attempted by many. resources crop are conserved mainly field gene banks, coconut-growing countries. Various aspects covering botany, morphology, phylogeny, development, varieties, their classification, variability reported discussed.
