Sexual quality of life after hormonal and surgical treatment, including phalloplasty, in men with micropenis: a review

摘要: Abstract Introduction The term micropenis encompasses a range of congenital and acquired conditions that result in an abnormally short penis. Small penis size may persist into adulthood, becoming major cause dissatisfaction. Aim To review the literature pertaining to effects hormonal surgical treatment on psychosexual functioning quality life (QoL) individuals with who were raised male. Main Outcome Measures Long‐term QoL outcomes after treatment, including phalloplasty. Methods PubMed search for relevant publications (1955–2012) role sexual adult men micropenis. Results Multiple variations etiology make it difficult draw firm conclusions fit all patients within this disparate population. However, supports (i) male gender assignment is preferable most 46,XY infants because likelihood development genitosexual function; (ii) small persisting adulthood dissatisfaction genital appearance jeopardize QoL; (iii) there no known intervention, apart from phalloplasty, guarantee will become normal size; (iv) early data suggest phalloplasty technique considered gold standard reassignment transgender population can also be transferred micropenis; (v) psychological support should integral part management order alleviate distress impairment experienced by these individuals. Conclusions Further publication series large numbers longer follow‐up needed.
