摘要: The major product of sterol biosynthesis in fungi and some trypanosomes is ergosterol, unlike mammalian systems which synthesize cholesterol as the membrane lipid (12, 13). two sterols differ a few minor ways: has second double bond (Δ5(6)) B ring (Figure 16.1) fully saturated side chain without methyl group at C24. These small differences are clearly very important ergosterol been shown to be essential for aerobic growth most fungi. This requirement demonstrated by sparking phenomenon discussed Nes et al. (55), who described structural parts molecule needed growth. Some fungi, however ( Pythium Phytophthora ), use an alternative terpene-like compound instead (33).
