摘要: Abstract The acidification of many streams and lakes that has occurred in southern Norway during several decades is to a large extent caused by acid deposition. However, coastal areas deposition events with high loading sea-salts may result increased acidity aluminium concentration the discharge. Since such episodes are difficult predict usually short duration, chemistry so far not been evaluated detail. In January 1993, monitoring Lake Terjevann catchment, area was exposed an extraordinary sea-salt loading. Cl− stream water more than doubled (reaching about 900 μeq/l), labile inorganic (Ali) almost quadrupled 33 18 μM two streams), relative increase Al3+ even higher. It took 3–4 months until Ali year returned pre-event levels. Simple equilibria minerals as gibbsite, jurbanite, kaolinite/halloysite or imogolite do control discharge from these catchments. Retention Na+ compensated for desorption Al3+. results strongly indicate cation exchange organic soil layers essential controlling waters especially flow. Similar, but less pronounced, effects episode were seen at Birkenes catchment 37 km inland Terjevann.
