摘要: Thyroid abscess was a common condition in the era before antibiotics. In current medical environment, however, it is clinical entity that seldom encountered. We report case of unique cause thyroid abscess, environmental Gram-negative bacterium Acinetobacter calcoaceticus. Review published causes since 1980 demonstrated although Gram-positive bacteria (Staphylococcus and Streptococcus species) remain most causes, there has been marked decrease number cases caused by mycobacteria, Salmonella species, anaerobes when compared with early part 20th century. Patients infected human immunodeficiency virus, still develop mycobacterial fungal infections some regularity. Reported modes management vary, but drainage remains an integral component therapy for resolution infection.
