Health Consequences of Weight Stigma: Implications for Obesity Prevention and Treatment

摘要: Despite decades of research documenting consistent stigma and discrimination against individuals with obesity, weight is rarely considered in obesity prevention treatment efforts. In recent years, evidence has examined stigmatization as a unique contributor to negative health outcomes behaviors that can promote exacerbate obesity. This review summarizes findings from published studies within the past 4 years examining relationship between maladaptive eating (binge increased food consumption), physical activity, status (weight gain loss development obesity), physiological stress responses. Research evaluating effects present obesity-related public campaigns also highlighted. Evidence collectively demonstrates implications for weight-related correlates suggests addressing warranted. Key questions future further delineate are summarized.
