Prevalence, seriousness and reporting of work-related violence in the Danish elderly care.

摘要: A survey study (paper and pencil) among staff of elderly care institutions in 36 Danish municipalities (n = 9949) was conducted 2005 with a response rate 78%. The majority the participants were women (96%). paper presents prevalence, perpetrators, seriousness (self-rated seriousness, injuries, sick leave type violence) work-related physical violence towards workers frequency reporting incidents to safety organization. findings show that every fourth caregiver exposed 2005. Care personnel working nursing homes integrated had highest prevalence (40%) also most often (10%) violence. Clients (>90% cases) perpetrators. frequent types hitting (63%) scratching/pinching (63%). Being held (32%) or kicked (27%) mentioned as violence; use weapon, throwing hard objects more seldom. Nearly 1/3 respondents rated at least one incident very serious. There significant associations between self-rated violence, injuries leave. were, particular when perpetrators clients, not Only 22% victims reported violent organizations. Reports significantly associated exposure, injury, serious cases where clients less than others. It has been suggested underreporting occurs because it is time consuming, lacks supervisory support, won't make any difference, part job, there tendency 'downplay' care. Suggestions for researches policy makers are made.
