The genus Hippolyte Leach, 1814 (Crustacea: Decapoda: Caridea: Hippolytidae) in the East Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea, with a checklist of all species in the genus

摘要: The genus Hippolyte Leach in the East Atlantic and Mediterranean is revised a list of world species given. Eleven occur area studied: H. coerulescens (Fabricius), garciarasoi spec. nov., inermis Leach, lagarderei d'Udekem d'Acoz, leptocerus (Heller), leptometrae Ledoyer, niezabitowskii palliola Kensley, prideauxiana sapphica varians Leach. An elaborate key, complete descriptions illustrations all are provided, while their ecology discussed detail. A morphological account also given for occuring Suez Canal: proteus (Paulson) ventricosa Milne Edwards. It shown that (previously huntii) display important geographical variations. longirostris proves to be junior synonym but part specimens previously referred as belong fact new species: nov. latter not very variable it extremely close which itself displays extraordinary variations within individual populations on scale. presents discontinuous variations: comprises long-rostred form (forma A) short-rostred B). possibly endemic Adriatic Ionian Seas morphologically varians. some neotenic characters.
