摘要: The practice of determining acid concentrations by titrations has remained unchanged for more than a century. We introduce new approach to the determination based on cation exchange chromatography. demonstrate ability sulfonated styrene-divinylbenzene stationary phases separate hydrogen ion from other monovalent cations. eluent is dilute solution neutral salt, sometimes containing small concentration corresponding acid, e.g., sodium ethanesulfonate, pH adjusted with ethanesulfonic acid. high equivalent conductance (approximately 350 S.cm2/equiv) H+ and relatively low allows sensitive conductometric detection H+, down 50 microM level under favorable conditions. response can be linear over wide range concentrations, sub-millimolar several molar concentrations. system rapid quantitation strong acids; weak acids also determined depending pKa injected concentration. determinations are presented along factors that govern their chromatographic analysis.
