摘要: There is increasing support for the proposition that academic health centers have a duty to accept broad responsibility of their communities. The Health Public program has proposed become directly involved in social-political process as advocates reform care system. Such engagement raises important issues about roles and responsibilities faculties. To address these issues, authors draw upon available literature experiences recent efforts Minnesota Vermont which center faculty participated. discuss (1) problematic balance between objectivity social advocacy must attempt when they engage process; (2) management sometimes divergent interests centers, some faculty, society (including giving permission developing tacit understanding distinguishes positions on from center's position such issues); (3) challenge develop infrastructure activities. maintain centers' participation helps them fulfill trust public are obligated ultimately depend on.
