摘要: This paper presents an overview of large carnivore research and a perspective on the deficiencies in our knowledge about this group. Since landmark done 1960’s, ecology amount has been unbalanced. In some areas ecology, remained practically unchanged since early 1970’s. Notable exceptions have work Hyaenidae Felidae open habitats Africa, with felids Indian subcontinent, Ursidae Canidae North America. Over same time period (and starting much earlier), base for game species around world increased several-fold. We discuss special needs conservation, especially human/carnivore conflicts, population viability, experimental approaches. stress urgent need carnivores developing countries, particularly those regions where little or no modern ecological performed.
