摘要: -A new fat scoring technique for small birds is introduced using 31 classes (nine main with up to four subclasses each; Fig. 1). In contrast many other methods, score and respective load (as determined by the Soxhlet method) correlate very well. Furthermore, variability in calculated regression lines nine different species low. This effective method can easily be learned handling approximately 100 individual substantially improves precision of studies on fat-deposition migratory birds. Subcutaneous deposits estimated visually. Different authors (Davidson 1984, Pettersson Hasselquist 1985) have developed series classification methods estimate visible (here "fat score"). These however, are rather rough so far accuracy various techniques has not been investigated (Blem 1990), although scores are, some extent, convertible. Most use only 4-7 (Bernis 1966, Busse 1970, Kania Cherry 1982, Frelin 1978, Fry et al. Helms Drury 1960, Wolfson 1945). I much finer scale 1) during long-term monitoring program bird populations (MRI-Programme) Vogelwarte Radolfzell (Berthold Schlenker 1975, Kaiser 1992). was increase estimating scores. more precise estimation may enable one calculate actual accurately future as well determine precisely physiological capabilities birds, such flight range overnight or overwinter survival. The tested following points: correlation between amount stored fat; 2) interspecific variability; 3) (i.e., repeatability); 4) "user friendliness," particularly, how fast it applied.
