摘要: Publisher Summary This chapter presents the physical studies of membranes. The molecular biology approach to membrane structure is hampered by properties that endow with its unique functional capacity. Membrane components are organized in a highly mobile and conventional techniques reflect structural properties, across thickness only, averaged over entire plane membrane. Membranes cannot be crystallized for high-resolution X-ray diffraction combination inherent motions their together comparatively long recording time patterns yields results corresponding both space- time-averaged structure. Nevertheless, despite difficulties reservations associated application techniques, there exists cogent picture average skeletal organization phospholipids bilayer, which penetrated places protein. investigations have revealed protein molecules submerged lipid bilayer. hydrocarbon region bilayer has nonuniform direction perpendicular surface affected only small extent lipid–protein interactions.
