THE ROLE OF INTRA-ARTICULAR HIP INJECTIONS IN OSTEOARTHRITIS OF THE HIP

摘要: Introduction: Intra-articular injection (IAJ) with cortico-steroid and local anaesthetic has been used as both diagnostic therapeutic intervention in osteoarthritis of the hip. Doubt remains about its efficacy confirming source symptoms patients hip spinal arthritis. There are also concerns introduction infection for undergoing surgery. Methods: All Hip IAJ within a 6-month period 2007 were reviewed three surgeons at one institution retrospectively. Data was collated analysed using set protocol allowing 18 months follow-up period. Results: 41 procedures (38 patients) had injections study Male: Female ratio 17:24. Average age 52 years. 54% right-sided procedures. 25/41 full response to injection. 80% listed surgery result (documented reasons those not listed). 6/41 partial – 66% managed conservatively (due co-morbidities elicited review, or pathology). 10/41 no benefit 3 offered (one after MRI confirmation, prolonged physiotherapy discussion overlap). replacement completely reduced 19/21 (90%) partially 2/21 (10%) (1 undergone successful pre-operative IAJ). deep infections 1 patient superficial (resolved review). Discussion: Diagnostic can be value when there whether origin is truly ascribable Patients where go on undergo without an increased risk infection.
