摘要: Retrieval studies of total hip arthroplasty were reviewed to assess the clinical relevance fretting damage on outcome with modular design artificial joints. In this case, denotes small rel-ative displacement between two contacting surfaces at taper joint a prosthesis under cyclic loading caused by walking. Fretting causes local disruption passivation surface layer exposing new metal aggressive body envi-ronment. The most important consequence is release ions and particles. spite evidence that plays role in corrosion joints implants, statistics retrieval too poor for quantita-tive assessment. Moreover, complexity interacting mechanical loading, leads apprecia-ble difficulties experimental description phenomenon terminology used. A rather exhaustive list experi-mental methods vitro testing presented. related accelerated using excessive dis-placement amplitudes or high frequencies are discussed. necessity alternative allow situ monitoring ion particle sufficient sensitivity meaningful conditions has been underlined. As an electrochemical methods, possibility measure subnanogram material radiotracer techniques demonstrated. (Journal Applied Biomaterials & Biomechanics 2004; 2: 121-35).
