Prevalence of cigarette smoking among employees of the Mexican National Institutes of Health

摘要: Objective. To determine the prevalence of cigarette smoking at National Institutes Health in Mexico (NIHM). Material and methods. A survey was performed among workers who voluntarily answered a questionnaire. Smokers were identified with two specific questions, type employment classified as physicians, administrative staff, investigators support personnel. Results. Total 28% (of 4 422 questionnaires). It significantly higher females, common-law separated workers. Mexican Institute Psychiatry than remaining Institutes, even after adjusting for confounding. The also physicians from same Institute. Of smokers, 46% do so their work areas 78% them would like to quit. Conclusions. smokers NIHM is high general population broad educational program tobacco control prevention needed.
