摘要: Abstract Urban energy system modelling allows megacities to assess their future development and draw sustainable pathways meet the rapidly increasing needs. This paper elaborates three different scenarios for transition in Greater Cairo with particular emphasis on impact of lowering share inhabitants living informal settlements. A city-specific TIMES model is used investigate how supply demand will evolve between 2015 2050. Besides, impacts final consumption CO2 emissions are investigated considering socio-economic pathways. The show that long-term cost-efficiency optimization leads decarbonization power sector even absence climate constraints. Climate policies modeled achieve by 2050 a carbon reduction 50% below baseline. results indicate implementation current urban plans double per capita if no mitigation adopted. expansion programs need take into consideration energy-environment-economic nexus be coupled contain rising emissions.
