摘要: A variety of examples vernacular architecture are used to illustrate the shift from an empirically based traditional knowledge handed down over centuries, our own era in which that has been lost. The loss is due introduction new materials and construction systems, changes education, increasingly disused systems technologies forgotten through neglect. This time-honored replaced by some very sophisticated scientific research fields science structural engineering, but this not often communicated or accessible those who need it most: on site. While modern confirmed empirical knowledge, cannot entirely replace kind passed generation trial error experiences centuries even millennia. chapter investigates from, return to, a range Arg-e-Bam Iran Srinagar Kashmir, India, 19th-century industrial works impacts 1906 San Francisco earthquake.
