摘要: OBJECTIVE: To review published and other available data comparing the effectiveness of liquid-based cytology preparations in detecting epithelial cell abnormalities cervicovaginal (gynecologic) as compared to conventional Papanicolaou test. STUDY DESIGN: Available split-sample gynecologic with cervical cytologic test were collated from studies, unpublished studies reported on at professional meetings or press, Food Drug Administration Premarket Clinical Trials ThinPrep AutoCyte PREP. Data stratified regard use newer preparatory instrument models, varying collection devices different protocols. RESULTS: methods showed overall increased detection abnormalities. Results have varied considerably study appear be influenced by protocol probably devices' delivery cellular material first smear second medium. Newer models may also enhance detection. CONCLUSION: Liquid-based increase abnormalities, conventional, single-slide smear, based studies. The true potential impact these enhancing awaits accumulation direct-to-vial especially biopsy confirmed high grade squamous intraepithelial lesions a wide variety clinical practice settings.
