摘要: Background: Infant respiratory distress syndrome (RDS) and bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD) remain important complications of preterm births. This study aims at establishing the incidence impact extreme low birth weight (ELBW) on healthcare utilization a population infants. Methods: Retrospective cohort using administrative databases province Quebec (Canada). The main outcome measures utilization, hospital admissions, mortality use prescription drugs were studied in 55 033 subjects born prematurely with or without such as BPD RDS between 1999 2009. Results: Preterm infants had significantly higher readmissions per person-year. trend persisted for entire duration 10-year follow-up. Diagnoses childhood asthma, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder cerebral palsy more frequent subjects, but not influenced by weight. Extreme carried odds ratio 38.0 [33.5, 43.2] 3.5 [3.2, 3.9] respectively occurrence RDS, was associated greater mortality, longer stay medical visits Except anxiolytics sedatives, likely to have been prescribed neurological psychiatric medications. Conclusions: Birth is major determinant following birth. impacts lasting consequences health utilization.
