The context of REDD+ in Indonesia

摘要: This country profile reviews the drivers of deforestation and forest degradation in Indonesia, sets out institutional, political economic environment within which REDD+ is being implemented documents process national policy development during period 2007 - early 2012. While Indonesia committed at international level to addressing climate change through forestry sector, there are clearly contextual challenges that need be addressed create enabling conditions for REDD+. Some major issues include inconsistent legal frameworks, sectoral focus, unclear tenure, consequences decentralisation, weak local governance. Despite these challenges, however, opens up an opportunity improvements governance and, more broadly, land use More democratic political-economic processes general, greater freedom civil society press, heightened awareness environmental can help build support solidify policies this direction.
