摘要: There are more than 3000 protected areas (PAs) situated on or near international boundaries, and amongst them there is an increasing trend towards the establishment of transboundary cooperation initiatives. Proponents Transboundary PAs (TBPAs) highlight potential for biodiversity protection through spatial, management socio-economic benefits. However, have been few formal studies that assess these It possible relaxation boundary controls to optimise connectivity may increase risk impacts from invasive species illegal human incursion. We sought investigate validity proposed benefits risks a questionnaire survey 113 PAs, which 39 responded met our inclusion criteria. 82% felt has and, across self-reported level communication was positively associated with some improved 26% reported they never communicated their internationally adjoining area, indicating unrealised greater gains.
