摘要: Introduction: Childhood constipation is a common problem, varying from mild and short-lived to severe chronic. In the majority of children, no organic cause can be identified complaints are, thus, referred as functional constipation. Infrequent painful defecation in combination with fecal incontinence has significant impact on child's quality life. Pharmacological treatment often consists disimpaction maintenance therapy. With current options, results are disappointing. Areas covered: The aim this review provide an overview future pharmacological therapies for childhood. Expert opinion: Despite widespread use laxatives, there paucity evidence support practice. No strong conclusions drawn which laxative prefer over other.
