Major perioperative critical incidents: Prospective review in 3 years’ period at a university hospital

摘要: Abstract Background Little is known about perioperative critical incidents in our hospital since it became part of quality control system. The aim was to identify, rate, type and analyse factors leading severe incidences patients undergoing surgery under anaesthesia. Patients methods We conducted a prospective three-year reporting at tertiary university Jordan from January 2016 till December 2018. Reports included date, location, patients, demographics, ASA score, anaesthesia, the events led outcome. Severe incidence defined as complication requiring immediate action did lead (or could have led) major disability or death. Results 59136 underwent 78346 surgical procedures anaesthesia during study period. were reported 80 (0.14%) patients. 51 recovered, 29 (0.05%) died. 27 above 60 years. 55 III IV, 43 males, 13 occurred each orthopaedics general surgery. 66 after involved cardiovascular, 24 respiratory systems. 62 operating room, 23 avoidable 53 elective. Anaesthesia related contributing found 31 them Conclusion Critical should be system any teaching hospital, where identifies weak area for purpose improvement patient safety education trainees specialists
