Determinants of participation in a fall assessment and prevention programme among elderly fallers in Hong Kong: prospective cohort study

摘要: Aims. The study was undertaken to estimate the uptake rate of a fall prevention programme among older fallers and explore related factors. Background. Fall injuries are major cause nationally loss independence in old age, but they preventable. Acceptance programmes is therefore important reduce risk falling. Methods. Patients aged ≥60 attending Department Accident & Emergency regional hospital Hong Kong between 2006 2007 were recruited. included baseline interview, focus group interview cross-sectional 1-year follow-up telephone survey assess its Results. A total 68% 1194 people attended programme. Factors associated with participation perception as being preventable [OR = 3·47, 95% CI (1·59-7·56)] or recoverable 1·73, (1·06-2·82)], safe outside environment; absence chronic illness, ability walk without aids. Old-age people, those living old-age homes lower education level less likely join Conclusion. Older selected characteristics attend programme, thus benefit from them.
