摘要: Is it ethical for medicine to use patients as learning tools medical students if these have not been given a chance provide truly informed consent? Dr. Caroline Shooner raises this question in the following article, which claimed second prize CMAJ's 1996 Logie Medical Ethics Essay Contest. She considers case of patient whose trust was shaken when student performed chest-tube insertion. concludes that psychologic harm could avoided had patient's right consent respected. also argues few will turn down help learn request is made properly and openly.
