摘要: Cathemerality, an activity pattern comprised of distinct periods diurnal and nocturnal activity, is a trait found among several the Malagasy strepsirhines one species Aotus. Because occasional anecdotal reports suggest that some primates can be active at night, I investigated possibility ranging behavior in ring-tailed lemur (Lemur catta) by using global positioning system (GPS) collars programmed to collect data across 24-h period. Five individuals provisioned, free-ranging L. catta colony on St. Catherines Island, Georgia, USA, wore GPS 1 week mating season. Results revealed night occurred between h 1900 0530. An evaluation effect moonlight showed greater rate travel during moonlit as opposed when moon had not yet risen. Distance travelled decreased deployment period, likely because decrease available over time, lemurs were collared waning moon. Fewer opportunities time may have also been responsible for ranging, number females estrus declined Future research needed separate effects this species, well evaluate whether Madagascar show similar SCI. These raise cathemeral, with fluctuating diurnality cathemerality accordance shifts environmental conditions.
