摘要: Summary The DNA double helix stable in water is denatured by solvents with widely varing properties. To understand quantitatively the role of keeping together, solvent contributions to unitary free energy difference between random single strands and are calculated for water, MeOH, glycol, formamide, glycerol, ethanol, n-propanol, n-butanol. property crucial denaturation found be mainly enthalpy part surface tension. number molecules solvating A, T, G, C bases, hence their drastically reduced going from coils helix. ‘Hydrophobic bonding’ thus results a large extent water. same interactions may cause ‘stacking’ adjacent bases strand Such stacking what makes thymine photodimerization under action uv favorable some hydrate crystals aqueous DNA.
