摘要: The form, diversity and dynamics of tropical forests are influenced by both abiotic factors, such as the physical environment climate, biotic interactions between organisms. To most people principally comprised trees, large mammals birds. But, many other smaller life forms including arthropods, fungi, nematodes bacteria, these too have an important part to play in forest dynamics. relative importance different groups animals forests, measured through abundance, biomass species richness, is presented here. Because sheer only a few complex webs organisms kingdoms been determined with any accuracy. In spite this fact, some general patterns recognised major components trophic systems determined. Many detailed studies birds shown significance their roles forests. What less clear precise contribution invertebrates arthropods nematodes. because richness sometimes biology poorly understood. Data on (i) distribution, abundance arthropod main habitats lowland rain Seram, (ii) Sulawesi. Arthropods particularly two contrasting strata canopy soil, where herbivory decomposition, respectively, principal processes. discussed examples ants termites. An understanding may help determining how biodiversity sustainability sit more easily together. This suggestions we can best use available information toward end, what new needed, which ideas require examining.
