摘要: Background Skeletal muscle is key to motor development and represents a major metabolic end organ that aids glycaemic regulation. Objectives To create gender-specific reference curves for fat-free mass (FFM) appendicular (limb) skeletal (SMMa) in children adolescents. examine the muscle-to-fat ratio relation body index (BMI) age gender. Methods Body composition was measured by segmental bioelectrical impedance (BIA, Tanita BC418) 1985 Caucasian aged 5-18.8 years. data from four limbs were used derive smoothed centile ratio. Results The illustrate developmental patterns of %FFM SMMa. While differ markedly between boys girls, SMMa (kg), %SMMa %SMMa/FFM show some similarities shape variance, together with characteristics. Existing BMI do not reveal these gender differences. Muscle-to-fat showed very wide range means differing girls across fifths z-score. Conclusions BIA assessment significant advance nutritional since components are associated health. has potential provide better future
