摘要: Objectives: To evaluate in a large, nationally representative cohort the association between high serum transferrin saturation (TS) and hospital length of stay mortality older adults. Design: Prospective cohort. Setting: Longitudinal analyses Third National Health Nutrition Examination Survey linked to Medicare claims from 1991 through 2006. Participants: beneficiaries aged 65 at baseline. Measurements: Transferrin collected on each participant baseline was characterized as <20.0%, 20.0% 54.9%, 55.0% greater. Length death were primary outcomes. Analyses adjusted for age, sex, race ethnicity, education, severity illness. Results: Individuals hospitalized during study period (79.4%) with (odds ratio (OR) = 2.54, 95% confidence interval (CI) 1.056.12) or low (OR 1.31, CI 1.071.62) TS had significantly greater risk than those moderate TS. longer average per hospitalization (11.1 days, (standard error, SE 1.7 days), P .01) (8.4 (0.3) days). also more days year (8.6 (2.0) .04) (6.7 (0.5) days). Conclusion: High is associated (unweighted N 3,847, weighted 28,395,464).
