Effect of timing and intensity of grazing on the herbage quality of a Mediterranean rangeland

摘要: The main objective of this study was to determine the quality herbage grazed by cattle in hilly Mediterranean grassland under different grazing management systems. conducted at Karei Deshe experimental farm, located eastern Galilee (Israel), between 2003 and 2005 seasons. Treatments comprised stocking rates 0.9 1.8 ha per cow, systems continuous seasonal (early vs late) grazing. Herbage sampled four periods during each season. Samples were analysed for digestibility, protein, ADF, NDF ash contents using near infrared refl ectance spectroscopy. Signifi cant differences found periods, years their interaction. paddocks continuously or early season signifi cantly higher than those late Stocking rate had a relatively minor effect on quality.
