摘要: Limited research exists concerning male partners' participation in prenatal genetic counseling (R. Kenen, A. C. M. Smith, Watkins, & Zuber-Pitore, J. Genet Corns 9, 33–45, 2000). To further understand paternal participation, we interviewed 17 experienced counselors to assess their perspectives on this issue. We investigated 6 questions: 1) How do define involvement, 2) how they determine and address problematic 3) what factors influence 4) was involvement addressed training, 5) might training be improved, 6) participant strategies for addressing compare those of marriage/family therapists? Qualitative analysis revealed that participants regard asimportant; most with similar marital/family therapists; influential include partner's characteristics, the couple's relationship (including culturalpractices), pregnancy factors; received little or notraining recommended didactic experientialactivities. Implications recommendations are presented.
