摘要: The involvement of nuclear genes in mitochondrial gene expression was investigated by identifying alterations that occur when teosinte cytoplasms are introduced into certain maize inbred backgrounds. from the teosintes Zea perennis, diploperennis, and luxurians were A619 or W23 lines recurrent backcrossing. Northern analysis revealed Z. perennis diploperennis cox2 transcript patterns dependent upon genotype. In a background, these mitochondria have two major transcripts 1.9 1.7 kb, whereas an they three 1.9, 1.5 1.3 kb. No effect background on observed for plants possessing cytoplasm. All teosinte-maize combinations possess larger, minor 3.9, 3.3 3.0 kb; has no transcripts. Immunoblot showed threefold reduction COXII polypeptide perennis-A619 compared to perennis-W23 combinations. posses both exons. intron is missing all present only 3.9- 3.0-kb 1.7- 1.3-kb untranslated regions 3' gene; therefore at least some size heterogeneity due differential termination downstream processing. Genetic analyses indicate single responsible differences transcripts, carries dominant allele.(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 250 WORDS)
