摘要: Abstract Recent studies on forest dynamics in diverse forested ecosystems suggest that stands are disturbed more frequently if they next to existing gaps, and gaps once formed tend expand their area subsequent years. We examine total gap the size distribution of at equilibrium a lattice-structured model. Each site undergoes transition between two states (gaps non-gaps), disturbance rate (transition from non-gap gap) increases with number sites neighborhood. Dynamics based mean-field approximation (i.e. neglecting spatial structure) failed predict forest. Pair approximation, which considers closed dynamical system average local density (the conditional among neighbors randomly chosen site), can area, correlation neighbors, fairly accurately. If recruitment proportion forest, model may show bistability. analyse data light conclude often be described using statistics (global densities) these turn predicted by formation, expansion, regeneration, closure.
