摘要: A new method for calculating finite sectional strain from distributions of elliptical objects is presented. The only assumptions required are that before deformation (1) long axis orientations uniformly distributed and (2) the distribution axial ratios independent orientation. Importantly, an estimate orientation ellipse not can be applied. based on conceptually simple fact mean radial length a set oriented ellipses in unstrained state equates to circle, so after strain, evaluates ellipse. Errors associated with calculated bootstrap, simulation study verifies both applicability estimation accuracy errors bootstrap. applied large sandstone quartz clast data Irish Variscides, whilst cross-checking results those established methods also validates approach taken.
