摘要: The hypothesis that unconjugated bilirubin and biliverdin are cytoprotective antioxidants has been examined for the first time in systems containing cells. In primary rat hepatocytes exposed to xanthine oxidase hypoxanthine, (0-60 microM) failed prolong cell survival. contrast, (20-100 markedly delayed hepatocyte necrosis a concentration-dependent manner. When 0.3 mM of albumin was present, (0-50 became protective hepatocytes, while less dramatically enhanced its effect. human erythrocytes peroxyl radicals, inhibited 50% lysis at lower concentrations than Trolox ascorbate, respectively. Albumin alone appeared red cells but presence effects both pigments on erythrocytes. Of probable physiologic relevance, with present or protected substantially (and lesser extent cells) normal blood levels (3.4-26 microM). Moreover, fact higher (e.g., 50-100 tempts speculation they may be circulating cytoprotectors overlooked importance jaundice.
