摘要: The licensing and performance of a potential repository at Yucca Mountain will require the characterization radionuclide sorptive capacity host rock, which in turn calls for hundreds analyses based on extensive sampling or situ measurements. A rapid method specifically characterizing manganese oxide minerals occurring heterogeneously throughout block as fracture surface coatings is needed. Our unique solution laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS) surface-analysis technique that usable field to produce high-resolution atomic emission spectra. In tests with from few core samples, we used four spectral bands show qualitative measurement all constituent elements except K Na (in presence Mn) possible LIBS. Detailed calibration final hardware make system quantitative.
