Looking Presidential: A Comparison of Newspaper Photographs of Candidates in the United States and Taiwan

摘要: News coverage of elections is a popular topic in mass and political communication research. Studies this tradition usually focus on news articles neglect another important element content: photographs. In study, newspaper photographs presidential candidates the United States Taiwan were compared. Generally, US more likely to be portrayed as beloved leader, at leisure, from side or back, looking determined, leader follower, standing walking, with cheering crowds. Candidates depicted ‘glad-to-see-you’ pose, camera angle down, no expression, an equal others same photograph, inattentive people. How cultural differences between these two countries may have contributed such variations was also discussed study.
