摘要: Purpose Many studies have investigated how the structure of collaborative networks researchers influences nature their work, and its outcome. Co-authorship (CANs) been widely looked at as proxies that can help bring understanding to research ties. The purpose this paper is provide a framework for describing what formation different collaboration patterns. Design/methodology/approach The authors use social network analysis (SNA) analyze co-authorship ego ten most central in 24 years papers (703 1,118 authors) published Proceedings CASCON, computer science conference. In order understand lead CANs examined, conducted semi-structured interviews with these authors. Findings Based on examination, propose typology differentiates three styles co-authorship: matchmaking, brokerage, teamwork. also quantitative SNA-based measures place researchers’ CAN into one proposed categories. Given many describe researchers, believe it important identify specific structures would be meaningful when studying collaboration. offer guidance choosing appropriate collaboration. Originality/value The results presented highlight value combining SNA CAN. Moreover, show used mechanisms leading ties among researchers. discuss several potential implications findings study collaborations.
