摘要: Abstract Unlike other visceral organs, the gastrointestinal tract has several communication channels transmitting to spinal cord and brain, which include vagal afferent neurons, intestinofugal enteric endocrine mechanisms. The vagus nerves have long been thought play only a role in efferent reflex regulation of digestion. It turned out, however, that majority fibers is nature subserves an unprecedented variety physiological pathophysiological roles. Thus, afferents function chemonociception interoception (the sense state body), modify affective-emotional processes can give rise nausea vomiting, carry messages relevant appetite nutrition. In context this book, it particularly serve as sensory interface between peripheral immune system central well autonomic nervous system. Vagal respond proinflammatory cytokines such interleukin-1beta contribute behavioral sickness response infection. addition, they elicit vagovagal anti-inflammatory results stimulation cholinergic efferents. Upon release, acetylcholine activates alpha7 subunit-containing nicotinic receptors on cells, inhibits further release suppresses inflammation. These substantial advances understanding nerve offer novel therapeutic opportunities for management nociception
