摘要: –  The objective of this study was to quantify fish species diversity in Terra firme streams the Rio Amazonas drainage. Fish quantified as number collected or richness two sites Yahuarcaca stream, a typical, first order tributary central near Leticia (Colombia). extremely high recorded, 131 and 133 for total 171 species, primarily due low abundance (rare species) mostly with adults <5 cm length. nonasymptotic tendencies accumulated over time 1999 samples at combined 1999, 2001 2005 site 2 suggested that real may be still greater. These findings emphasise importance long-term sampling designs these systems. actually sustain greater than previously reported similar sized turn, represent substantial per cent vast areas main stem including tributaries lakes. should considered critical hotspots conservation management efforts which are urgently needed given rapid development ornamental fisheries on small throughout
