摘要: Abstract Purpose Neuroimaging studies in persistent developmental stuttering repeatedly report altered basal ganglia functions. Together with thalamus and cerebellum, these structures mediate sensorimotor functions thus represent a plausible link between neuroanatomy. However, is complex, multifactorial disorder. Besides functions, emotional social-motivational factors constitute major aspects of the Here, we investigated cortical subcortical gray matter regions to study whether also linked alterations limbic structures. Methods The included 33 right-handed participants who stutter 34 control matched for sex, age, education. Structural images were acquired using magnetic resonance imaging estimate volumetric characteristics nucleus accumbens, hippocampus, amygdala, pallidum, putamen, caudate nucleus, thalamus. Results Volumetric comparisons vertex-based shape revealed structural differences. right accumbens was larger compared controls. Conclusion Recent theories suggest that motivation-to-movement interface. A speaker intends reach communicative goals, but can derail efforts. It therefore highly find interface stuttering. While behavioral sought links system, provide first neuroimaging evidence system. Thus, our findings might initialize unified neurobiological framework integrates neuroanatomical circuitries.
