摘要: Along the western continental margin of India (WCMI), several bottom simulating reflectors were identified on analogue single-channel seismic records, some these located in areas where slumping and mass wasting observed. The causes, consequences degree geographic variation geomorphic processes are assessed terms possible gas-hydrate dissociation during Pleistocene sea-level changes, high sedimentation resulting underconsolidation, seismotectonic activity prevailing along WCMI margin. One consequence slope could be sediment failure transport down slope. By contrast, flat deep-sea areas, may have led to gas seepage development pockmarks at seafloor.
